Candy McClelland, RYT -

 Candy

Sports and Fitness have always been a part of Candy’s life. She has been a group exercise instructor for 22 years; teaching resistance, choreographed and boot camp style classes. Tom Jacobs introduced her to yoga in 2000 while she was recovering from knee surgery. She learned how yoga addressed the whole person - physically, spiritually, mentally and socially. She saw such benefits as overall strength in the core, flexibility in the back, better posture, better digestion, greater range of motion in the joints and great muscle definition in the arms, legs, back and shoulders. She fell in love with yoga and wanted to learn more and how she could share it with others. She received her 200-hr RYT certification through YogaFit in 2009 and is currently working on her 500-hr. Candy enjoys teaching a physically challenging class by incorporating light weights into a yoga pump class or pilates core class. She also shares the spiritual side of yoga by adding a sutra or one of the yama’s or niyama’s during savasana. Candy has her AFAA personal training certification and owns Whole Body Fitness where she incorporates yoga into her client’s workouts. Candy has a BS degree in Business and an MBA and Computer Science master’s degrees. She is married with two children and two dogs. Her hobbies are teaching yoga, traveling, sailing, reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

Lisa Sewalson -

Lisa

Having been a fitness instructor for close to fifteen years now, her qualifications almost have no limits. She is AAA/ISMA certified in Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing, Step Aerobics, Spin, and Water Aerobics. Lisa is a PACE certified instructor as well as having been certified through the Kansas City Arthritis Foundation, and has also received her certification as a Mind, Body Personal Trainer. But ask any one of her many students and they will tell you that it is Lisa’s heart for God and people that keep them coming back to class. Raised in small town Washington, Kansas, Lisa’s heritage is one where family comes first in line right after Jesus Christ. Her loyalty to those around her and her passion to help others bring balance into their own lives permeates the atmosphere at Lisa’s classes. Having personally made the grueling journey from injury and illness to health and fitness, Lisa’s struggle to stay positive and patient while she worked through the challenges of her own broken back left her with a deep compassion and understanding for those who have any physical limitations and injuries to overcome of their own. God gave me great friends who gave me the support that I truly needed. I just hope and pray that I can be that for someone else as they struggle. That is my greatest desire and where I believe God wants me at this time in my life,” says Lisa. More than an instructor, Lisa is a caregiver and a friend to all who come to know her through her classes. Lisa is also the mother of two teenage children and a glossy brown Boxer named Sadie who sits beside her in her car like a human being……maybe you have seen them pass you on Mur-Len? With no nonsense, no competition, and no judgment…..

Sue Park -

I have been in the fitness world all my life. I love the way the body works and what it can do when put to the test. After many years of dabbling in running, cycling, swimming, kickboxing, aerobics, (you name it, I did it), I realized how important to have my body in balance, physically, mentally and spiritually. I first began practicing martial arts and then was introduced to yoga in about 1999. When I really fell in love with yoga was with my first teacher, Genvieve, in Ashtanga. I loved the way my body felt when practicing and once I learned the ujjayi breath, “wow!” I’ve been a teacher in the fitness world for over 25 years and adding yoga to the mix was a natural transition. I have four children, 2 girls and 2 boys, between the ages 7 and 15. While raising my children, teaching and practicing gave me an open pathway to grow personally. I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and I live my life in service to Him. This love for Him translates to my love for His people and I love serving YOU! See you in class!

Jim Graham RYT -

Jim

I began practicing yoga at 54 years old.  I have been an avid participant of sports all my life and experienced a succession of injuries.  I have had injuries of the knees, elbows, neck, ankles, feet, pulled and stained muscles along with chronic tension in neck and shoulders. I began practicing yoga when I could not overcome some of these injuries through medical help or message therapy.   Within the first few minutes that I followed instruction on a yoga DVD I felt relief I had not felt in a long time.  I continued to practice yoga on my own for about six months.  I was embarrassed to attend a class believing I was too stiff and uncoordinated.  After attending my first class I was hooked because of how much better I felt physically and mentally.  I have practiced yoga consistently since attending my first class.

I decided to become a yoga instructor to help bring the benefits I have enjoyed to other students.  After a few years of practice I am stronger, more flexible, have better joint health, and essentially pain free.  Yoga is the only physical activity I have found that helps me become more healthy while avoiding and healing injuries.  I continue to practice yoga along with playing sports I enjoy.   There are so many health, physical and mental benefits of practicing yoga that I have just begun to learn.  I also enjoy the friendships I have made with other instructors and the positive interaction with our students.  I look forward to expand my teaching skills at New Day Yoga studio and create a positive experience for the students.

Gretchen Conn -
Gretchen
My first experience with yoga was back in 2000 when I began taking classes from Sumya Anani. Over the next several years, I took classes at several yoga studios in the area, as well as classes outside the area when traveling. I finally landed at New Day Yoga in 2008. I feel that exposure to a variety of yoga styles, as well as a variety of instructional styles, makes for a well rounded practice. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of yoga along with sharing my discoveries of this ancient tradition with my students.

In addition to teaching yoga, I also work as a registered nurse. The anatomy, physiology and body mechanics that I learned during nursing school, and use daily in my current nursing practice, have translated very well in my yoga practice both as a student and teacher.

I am currently working on my Hatha yoga and 200 hour Yoga Alliance certifications through Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago. Once this goal is achieved, I plan to pursue a yoga therapy certification.

I earned my associates degree in nursing from Johnson County Community College. I also have a B.S. in accounting which I earned from Ball State University. I am currently a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association.

Hot yoga is my passion! My yoga experience began over 5 years ago in California with Bikram Yoga. After experiencing the life changing benefits of hot yoga, I knew I wanted it in my life in a bigger way. Fall 2007, I became a certified instructor in the Bikram Yoga Method. Since then, I have continued to teach and witness many mind/body transformations. Utilizing a Bikram Method foundation, I teach a positive and energetic class benefiting both your mind and body. It is an honor to share that with as many students as possible.

Breath. Prana. The life force. Connecting to the breath and controlling the breath is the most important factor in living a happy and healthy life.  In each of my classes I will help you get connected and master your breath. This is the most important step in getting connected to your mind and body. I also offer private lessons by appointment. Please share with me your goals and intentions. My pleasure is in helping you succeed! See you in class!
